Assemblage Art and Image Transfer
Pablo von Lichtenberg
Assemblage Art
Assemblages are three-dimensional collages, often constructed of found objects. The origin of this art form dates to the cubist constructions of Pablo Picasso, while the origin of the word in its artistic sense can be traced back to the early 1950s. Jean Dubuffet then created “assemblages d'empreintes,”a series of collages using butterfly wings.
Pablo von Lichtenberg is a Berlin-Brandenburg-based artist from Tangendorf in the Prignitz, who also collaborates in the USA in St. Louis and Pittsburgh. Image Transfer
The transfer of images can be achieved in many different ways. In this workshop two very different types of image transfer will be the focus of much hands-on fun.
Digital image transfer using an image processing software program will be the theme of part of this workshop. Participants will learn to layer their own images or other images in order to create a unique piece that is ready to be printed. Different options for printing the final art piece will also be discussed, so that the participant is ready to display the work quickly. A laptop computer and your own files of images will be needed. Software will be available for your use.

In the second part of the workshop you will actually work with images on paper and learn to transfer them to another surface using several methods of "pell" collage. The actual ink of the image will be separated from the paper on which it is printed and will be transfered to the location of your choice. Through your own composition and layering, you will create a collage that is ready for framing and display. Bring your own collection of images from magazines, photos, or other sources with you; there will also be plenty of hard copy available from which to choose the images for your creation.
