Concept
Kleindorf
"Kleindorf", literally little village, is a distinct part of a rural farming community called Strodehne, located about 60 miles (100 km) from the center of Berlin. Kleindorf is situated on the banks of the Havel River and with Strodehne is situated in Naturpark Westhavelland, a 1,315 square kilometer nature reserve important for its meandering river and wetlands and as a resting and breeding place for migratory birds. Whatever the season, the ever-changing Havel River and the broad Brandenburg sky provide the visitor with a feeling of peace and tranquility.
The Havel River between Strodehne and Havelberg is currently being renaturalized as dead-end arms of the river are reconnected to the main stream and rock river-bank reinforcements are removed. The stretch of the Havel River between the cities of Brandenburg on the Havel and Havelberg, including Kleindorf, was the site of the 2015 German Federal Garden Show (BUGA), and the first ever to encompass a region.

Kleindorf 8 in Strodehne
Kleindorf 8 is an oasis of peace and beauty in our hectic modern times and one of the centers of activity for kleindorf ART. With its spacious gardens and unobstructed view of the river, it is an ideal setting for wellness, visual arts and events of all kinds, designed to enhance our sense of well being and harmony. While renovated, the house, stables and barn retain much of their original charm, and the gardens are so conceived that just about year round something is blooming to please the eye and inspire the soul.
Winter flood waters 2012
Kleindorf is much more than a place; it is a feeling. The relatively flat and low land allows the water a free hand at determining the landscape's form, and the broad Brandenburg sky determines its mood and depth. This ever-changing canvas of subtle and understated beauty, along with the quiet peace afforded by flowing water, enable the visitor to lose sense of time and enjoy that feeling of an endless holiday, and that in a relatively unknown area of the former East Germany.
The "Remise"
kleindorf ART is committed to bringing diverse people with common goals together in order to learn from one another. Whether in the areas of wellness or the arts, we seek to provide affordable and quality experiences, which will help all who participate to enjoy the moment, to address their personal needs, to grow as persons. Qualified and experienced instructors will guide and challenge you individually along your path. Group activities, excursions and family-style meals will provide you with the opportunity to share your knowledge and learn from others.
All meals, vegetarian and non-vegetarian, are freshly prepared, and served as often as possible outdoors or in the "remise". Accommodations are clean and comfortable and are found either in Kleindorf 8 or in a neighboring facility. Please see the individual workshop for more specific information.
